Excellent Value-Better than Sony/Yamaha/Pioneer etc

First off, those reviews that state the remote does not have a fast forward feature or an on/off switch on the player etc etc...do me a favor - before you write a review, read the manual !! This little beauty has all of that and much much more.
I have owned many 'up-market' machines, the big boy's like Sony, Pioneer, JVC. In fact prior to ordering this I ordered a Yamaha, only for it to be D.O.A., with a DVD tray that would not open ! So I thought I'd try this great deal at a fraction of the price of the Yamaha and I am totally delighted. I even managed to enter the appropriate codes and make the player region free, which is another huge bonus for the money. To have all this plus the HDMI upscaling for my Hi-Def TV at around $45 is a steal.
It seems regardless of how much you spend these days, gadgets don't last in this disposable society. Plus technology changes so quickly, it's crazy to invest more money when this little beauty does the job so well.
People also complain about the aesthetics, saying it looks cheap. Again, I don't agree, it's very small and compact and the remote is very functional, again more so than the Yamaha at three times the price.
Buy one, buy two, buy three - I promise you can't go wrong with this great HDMI Multi Region DVD Player.

HDMI does carry audio signal

| I just bought this a few days ago so I haven't run a lot of dvd's through it yet. So far there have been no problems. I am very pleased with the upconvert and that you can choose between 720p or 1080i in the HDMI setup. The previous reviewer said that the was no audio signal through the HDMI cable but I found that to be incorrect. It may be that they didn't have something configured correctly on their tv. All I have running from my dvd player to my tv is a HDMI cable and the sound is very good. Setup was pretty easy, picture looks great! |
works great with my 19inch Aqous

| I get a great picture with my LCD tv. I see a difference from choosing 480p vs 720p. Very close to HD quality in my opinion. The player has a full function remote (and yes..you can open/close the dvd tray by holding in the stop button). Very simple set up..great picture..very nice and slim looking design. Played every disc so far that I have tried. I am happy with my purchase and got it for under $40.00. |

Philips DVP3960 Multiformat 1080i Upscaling DVD Player with DivX, MP3, Windows Media Support
I bought this unit about 6 weeks ago on whim one day because I really wanted a DVD player that would support DivX and I wanted it fast. It has a nice feature mix, it's simple to operate, and it truly does justice to my high quality DivX video files. I am hardly and expert on electronic equipment, but I know this unit does what I want it to do without any problems at a really nice price. My only criticism is that the titles that appear on the default menu screen don't display enough characters for my taste and I have to remember to condense my file names or I can't tell what's what. |
Who needs Blu-ray or HD-DVD?

| I got one of these for around 40 bucks, and now I can watch all my regular DVDs in Hi-Def. The images and sound are crystal clear. You won't get a better picture from a more expensive unit; HD is HD is HD. Keep in mind, you WILL have to buy an HDMI cable as there is not one included, but once you do, you're all set. Don't let the movie studios fool you into thinking you have to buy all your movies again in Blu-Ray or whatever. My TV verifies that I am indeed receiving a true 1080i HD signal, and that's as good as you're gonna get. And the review that said there is no fast forward is WRONG. It's the little > button to the right of the "OK" button. This player may be cheap, but it does everything right, and the picture and sound via HDMI are breathtaking. Enjoy the show! |
